Staging Shakespeare

De-coding Shakespeare Through Body Language

Workshop Focus: An Introduction to Shakespeare / Creativity / Teamwork
60 mins and 90 mins options

This workshop focuses on the importance of body language when performing Shakespeare.

We explore what body language can tell us about someone’s characteristics and status, and work with the students to create a range of characters using physicality as a starting point.

As the workshop develops, we look at the importance of being specific when miming on stage.

In groups, the students will use the skills they have learnt to prepare an extract from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, focusing on their use of body language and mime.

By the end of the workshop:

Students will have understood an extract from Macbeth and experimented with the physicality of the characters. If time allows, the extracts can be performed in front of the class.
